Artist’s Journey Exhibit
Today through May 23 at 8:00 AM – 7:30 PM (Mom-Thur) and 8:00 to noon (Friday)
The Artist’s Journey, an exhibit of the works of a group of seasoned regional artists, will be held at the Alabama Center for the Arts now through May 23, 2013.  This is a juried exhibit.  The Jurors for the show consisted of professional artists and art instructors, Johanna Littleton, David Edwards, and Blu Smith.  The artists’ works displayed include different mediums, such as oils, acrylics, watercolors, pencil and charcoal.   This is the 4th annual show for Artist’s Journey members and the first to be held at the Alabama Center for the Arts in downtown Decatur.  A reception will be held on April 18, from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m.   This event is free and open to the public.  The Alabama Center for the Arts is located at 133 2nd Avenue in Decatur, Alabama.  Contact 256-444-0222.
 
"Hits and Grins" Concert

2013 North Alabama Four Ball Tournament
May 25 - 27
- Format: 54-hole two-man best ball event with one round at each of the following facilities: Valley Hill Country Club, The Ledges, and Canebrake Club
- Eligibility: Any two male amateur golfers with certified USGA handicaps. - - Players 60 and older may play the senior tee set up.
- Cost: $650 per team
- Entry Includes: golf, range, cart, and lunch at each club
- Tee gift for each participant provided by: Tennessee Valley Training Center
- Drinks are provided while on the golf course by: Michelob Ultra
- Prizes: Prizes will be gift certificates from the club in which you win
- Flights: Each team will be flighted the first day based on their combined handicap indexes. All teams will be reflighted after the first and second days. Teams can't move more than one flight and can't be moved up or down if they have not won the day prior. The over-all champion will be the team who has the lowest 54-hole total. In the event of a tie, a playoff will begin on hole number 10 at Canebrake Club and continue until a winner is decided. All daily ties will be broken by USGA recommended method of scorecard play-offs.

Huntsville Ghost Walk

The Huntsville Ghost Walk starts another chilling season of tours on Saturday, June 1 at 6 p.m. All ghost walks begin at Harrison Brothers Hardware Store, located at 124 South Side Square in downtown Huntsville, promptly at 6 p.m. Visitors can choose one of three walking tours: Twickenham, Old Town, and Downtown. Athens State Art Students to participate in National “Athens” Exhibition

Athens Voices USA ’13, an Athens, Ohio biennial event by The Dairy Barn Arts Center, is an all media, juried art exhibition that aims to feature the diverse styles and visions of artists residing within 30 miles of a city named Athens in the United States.  Athens Voices USA 2013 will be the fourth juried art exhibition celebrating “Athens” from all over the Nation.    The event will be at the Alabama Center for the Arts located at 133 2nd Avenue in Decatur, Alabama. 
 
Bike MS: North Alabama

Join us at the Athens- Limestone Health and Wellness Center for our 4th Annual Bike MS: North Alabama. The ride will begin promptly at 7:30am and we feature 25, 45, 75 or 100 mile routes along the NOAH bike trail. The ride is fully supported with rest stops every 10-12miles and a cook out celebration at the finish line. Camp Hope

Camp Hope, sponsored by Hospice of Limestone County, is a one-day camp for Limestone County kids ages 5 – 11 years who have experienced the death of a loved one.  Each camper is paired with a volunteer buddy for the entire day.  Campers and buddies hang out, do arts and crafts, play games, fish, and most importantly talk, listen and share feelings with one another.  Camp Hope Volunteer Training will be 4/21/13 at 2-3 PM and 5/5/13 at 2-3 PM.  To Register for Camp Hope go to : www.athenslimestonehospice.org

Special Needs Rodeo

Sheriff Mike Blakely would like to announce that the Limestone County Sheriff’s Office will be hosting the annual Special Needs Rodeo on June 23, 2013 from 3pm until 5pm at the Limestone Sheriff’s Rodeo Arena on Hwy 99.  This year’s scheduled Special Needs activities for May 17 were cancelled due to weather.  The Limestone County Sheriff’s Office and all the volunteers associated with this event wish to extend an invitation to all our Special Needs clients that had originally planned to attend this past Friday.  All activities will be free of charge as always.  All volunteer workers please contact Dawn Blakely if you wish to participate at 256-233-8711.  If any additional information is needed please contact Sheriff Mike Blakely at 256-232-0111.

Athens Lions Club Kiddie Carnival
Jun 27 - Aug 3rd on Thursday-Saturday night of each weekend, 6:30 PM - 9:30 PM (CLOSED JULY 4TH)
There are rides for kids along with great concessions and bingo! The rides are: small Ferris wheel, rocket ships, small swings, carousel, train, roller coaster, parachutes, large swings and the scrambler. For safety and maintenance reasons, no adult riders on any of the rides.  Concessions available include hamburgers, hot dogs, chicken sandwiches, french fries and cokes. Also available are the crowd favorites of cotton candy, dippin' dots and funnel cakes. Our concessions are very reasonably priced and each of the rides is just one ticket, which is $.50.   If you are interested in booking the Kiddie Carnival grounds for a private birthday party, which gives you the grounds with all rides available except the train.  The private birthday parties are available June 1st through June 26.  Private parties for the month of August will begin on August 6 thru August 31.  You may schedule parties on Sun or Wed. Call Jackie Sneed at 232-262-1983 or 232-1296. For a private party you have use of the Kiddie Carnival for two hours and we provide about 4 volunteers to operate the rides for $250. You are allowed 25-30 kids at the event without additional charge.  Over 30 will be charged $10.00 per child.  Flexible times for parties however, 6:30 PM  - 8:30 PM is the choice for most people, since it is rather hot during this time period.  The Kiddie Carnival is located at the intersection of Forrest & Beaty streets, just across from Athens Middle School.  For more information or updates see our Facebook Page also:  Athens Lions Club Kiddie Carnival.

Ardmore Quarterback Club Car Show

One of the biggest and best car shows in Tennessee and Alabama is in Ardmore at the Ardmore, TN John Barnes Park located on Ardmore Ridge Road. Awards will be presented in 10 classes with the top five by class.  All judging is done by the contestants.  Live music will be provided by Microwave Dave.  Six grand prize drawings will be held during the day.  The AQBC Grand Prize is a 1967 Chrysler Imperial.  Brand Stovall's Auto Body Shop will present cash prizes of $1,500 for first place, $1,000 for second place and $500.00 for third place.  A Corporate Prize of a rolling tool box valued at $4,200 will be given away by Snap-On Tools.  Naylor Performance Transmission will give away a 700R transmission.  $50 cash drawings will be every 10 minutes.  A 50/50 drawing will also be held.  Pre-enter by August 4th and the fee is $20.00.  Day of Show entry fee is $25.00.  Spectator admission is $5.00 per person or $15.00 per family.  Children 12 and under are admitted free. KALB Duck & Run 5k

Start and ending point will be Big Spring Memorial Park in Athens. There will be one water station mid-way through the course and splits will be called at each mile. Course is certified AL10016JD. City Cemetery Walk

Tennessee Valley Old Time Fiddlers Convention

The Tennessee Valley Old Time Fiddlers Convention is known as the "Granddaddy of Midsouth Fiddlers Conventions" for its role in reviving the tradition of competition in old time music. Approximately, 15,000 people are expected to attend the convention this year from more than 30 states.  The convention brings some 200 contestants to compete for top prize money. There are 18 different categories, including several fiddle and guitar categories, harmonica, mandolin, bluegrass banjo, dulcimer, old time singing, banjo, and buck dancing. The Convention culminates in a "fiddle-off," between the top two fiddlers. The winning fiddler is declared "Tennessee Valley Old Time Fiddle Champion," and takes home a trophy and $1000. A total of $11,850 will be awarded to contestants.   In addition to the musical competition, hundreds of musicians will participate in the numerous jam sessions conducted across the Athens State campus during the weekend. Many people camp in travel trailers and even tents during the event on the University property.   The convention also includes 150 traditional arts and crafts booths. These feature many handmade and traditional items. Convention proceeds support student scholarships and University projects. To date more than $500,000 has been contributed to the University. The Haunted Lester Hospital

Come and enjoy the zombies at the Haunted Lester Hospital.  Tours are from 7p.m. to 12a.m.  Tickets are $10.00 per person.  hfrey@ardmore.net and briantodd@ardmore.net.  Concessions are available.   Directors to the Haunted Hospital:  from downtown Athens, take Market Street and continue for about 15 miles after it becomes Alabama 99. Past the turn for West Limestone High School, turn right on Lester Road and continue for about 2 miles. Rails to Trails Fall Color Ride or Walk

This is the perfect time to see the fall colors on the Rails to Trails.  Leaves should be at peak and they are really beautiful.  Come and take a nice walk or bring your bicycles or horses and enjoy the ride.  You can start at Veto Methodist Church north entrance or Mitchell Coffman Park on Piney Chapel Road at the south entrance.  You can also park in downtown Elkmont and enjoy the beauty of the trail.  Contact:   256-732-4211.  Free
